Back for the second time after a gap year – Harith Iskander admits he slept through the whole of 2016 – The Kuala Lumpur International Comedy Festival (KLICFest) is ready to make you laugh till you cry.
Running from April 21 to 23 and headlined by Laugh Factory’s Funniest Person in The World himself, Malaysia’s Godfather of Stand-up has brought together some of his friends, from around the world to tickle your funny bone for three consecutive days.
Harith’s rogues’ gallery of comedians this year include Paul Ogata from the US of A, Prince Abdi from Somalia via the UK, Funniest Woman in the World, Katerina Vrana from the UK via Greece, and Christopher Daley who is 100% Jamaican. Each comedian will have their own hour long show.
“Standup comedy seems to have gained a little bit more credibility in the mainstream [in Malaysia],” said Harith on changes since winning his title in Finland. “As opposed to when it used to be: ‘What do you do? Stand-up Comedy? Why you couldn’t get a real job, is it?’ So I’ve been able to use that to push forward the comedy scene and open a couple more doors for comedians in the region.”
The festival will also feature local stand-up acts from Afdlin Shauki, and the Angry Indians, while also allowing the comedians to show of their best improve skills at ‘Harith Iskander’s Making S#it Up.’
This year’s festival also comes with a heart as it entertains NGOs like Malaysian Aids Foundation, Sisters in Islam and the Woman’s Aid Organization for free, while ‘Transform Through Laughter’ will feature Harith talking to young students on deriving success through the positive power of laughter.
KLICfest is being held at Black Box Publika, from April 21 – 23 with daily passes that entitle you to all 6 shows (except Harith’s own, which has sold out) a day available at RM158. ‘Transform Through Laughter’ will be held on April 23 at the Bee, priced at RM45 for adults and RM35 for students
