The night was given the tagline 'Out with the old and in with the new.'

The Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur marked the temporary closure of 10 banquet rooms, the grand ballroom and the Lemon Garden Cafe with a private dinner. Hosted by the upper management of the hotel, including area general manager Manfred Webber, and area director of communications Dato' Rosemarie Wee, the exclusive guest lists of VIPs received their invitations with a crystal piece from the 32-year old chandelier that has hung in the hotel's grand ballroom. Guests like Dato' Simon Foong, Datin Mina Cheah-Foong and Puan Sri Dato’ Seri Molly Low dined in said ballroom before being invited to participate in a symbolic custom of demolition. Each guest was given a personalised apron and a hammer, and were asked to break through a case of ice to collect their personal gifts.
