Triangle 2 by Herzog & Meuron

The next time you step foot in the French capital, another skyscraper – one in a triangular shape no less – will be vying for your attention.

Think Paris and one also thinks immediately of the Eiffel Tower, one of the rare few skyscrapers in the city.

Well, the next time you step foot in the French capital, another skyscraper – one in a triangular shape no less – will be vying for your attention.

After close to 7 years of waiting, Swiss architecture firm Herzog & Meuron has finally gotten the green light to go ahead with building its Triangle 2 tower, which will also be Paris’s first skyscraper in 42 long years.

It will measure 180 metres tall, making it the third tallest structure in all of Paris following the city’s new height limits for new buildings.

Within the tower, 120 hotel rooms will reside alongside a fine dining restaurant, a bar, and 70,000 square metres of office space. Daycare facilities for about 60 children and other community facilities will also be provided in the lower levels.

Parisians have always been resistant to the ideas of skyscrapers that stand out against the city’s largely flat landscapes.

Triangle 2 will be built in the city’s porte de Versailles neighbourhood where numerous convention halls already call home.
