Michele Kwok

Co-founder, The Soul Society Group

A prominent F&B entrepreneur known for introducing innovative dining concepts, Michelle Kwok is one half of the husband-and-wife driving force behind The Soul Society Group

Michele Kwok, the first lady of The Soul Society Group, is one of the most influential figures in Malaysia’s F&B scene. She has been in the business for well over two decades, and has built an F&B empire with co-founder and husband Fred Choo that includes the beloved SOULed Out chain of restaurants, WIP, Tujo Bar-sserie & Grill, 7atenine and Hubba Hubba.

Sensing she was meant to be an entrepreneur since she was a child, Kwok was always on the look-out for a business opportunity. Before she discovered her rightful place in F&B, she was at one time in the recruitment business and was the Malaysian distributor of Hallmark cards. Then the opportunity came up to take over a restaurant in their neighbourhood in Mount Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

As challenging as it was in those early days having no experience in F&B, Kwok and Choo grew to love the business and two years later moved to bigger premises in Desa Sri Hartamas. From their famous SOULed Out restaurants to the swanky WIP, The Soul Society Group’s eateries have a knack of drawing diners by the droves.

More recently, Kwok launched into the essential-oils business, teaming up with her friend Angie Chong to establish an online platform called Puras.

Kwok and Choo are parents to two boys.
