Bold lipstick trends

Spice things up with a lipstick colour that you wouldn't normally wear like orange, lilac and mauve to add a little va-va-voom into your everyday look.

Lipsticks are perhaps the easiest pick-me-up tool to inject a little colour into a pale face. With the right shade, it can transform sick to sassy in a matter of seconds. In fact, they are so versatile that they can be worn alone without the backing up of other eye or cheek makeup.

Steer away from boring pinks and peaches this season and spice things up with a colour that you wouldn't normally wear. While red lipstick will always be a safe fall-back staple, neon orange, pastel lilacs and dark purple are the colours to look to this season if a little statement and tonnes of character is what you're looking for with your makeup.

Pastel lilac

This particular shade is made for the girl whose go-to lipstick has always been a soft pink but is now looking for a change of scene. Not quite as boring as your everyday pink, it has just enough character to stand out on its own without appearing as too drastic of a change. The subtle pop of colour still allows for generous eye makeup but should you choose to go with bare eyes, it holds its own just as well. Young, vibrant and very modern, slick a coat of lilac lipstick on and you'll turn heads for sure -- in all the good ways.

Neon orange

Without a doubt the it colour of the season, the warm orange has waited long for its time in the spotlight and is finally being granted its due. Playful and chic, it illuminates the face instantaneously for a warm summer glow just in time for the rising temperatures of the coming Summer. It is mature without being boring, yet playful without looking too childish at the same time. In other words, it combines the best of all your favourite lipstick shades out together to stand you out in a crowd.

Dark purple

The vampish goth look is in again, but this time with a hint of colour. Think dark berry hues and deep wine purples instead of dull mauves or near-black plums because the idea is to look mysterious and enigmatic, not poisoned and dead. Dab colours on and then blot it out for an effortless look so you don't look like you spent the past hour drawing on the perfect pout even if that is exactly what you did. It would be a good idea to keep eye makeup to a bare minimum so you don't look like you're wearing everything from your makeup pouch.
