Make the most out of your perfumes by layering them – the experts at Chanel show us how.

We all have a favourite scent for day and night. But why limit yourself to only what’s in the bottle when you can wear a few at one go and create your own distinct scent for any occasion. Layering also helps make a scent last longer on you.

Layering perfume is understandably an intimidating subject – What notes go best with what? How do we know the scents would complement one another? – so we got the experts at Chanel to share with us what to take into consideration and what to avoid.

Do: Think of the occasion and weather

"Depending on the event or occasion you're attending, layering with the right body product helps prolong the longevity of the fragrance. We recommend using lighter and fresher eau de toilette if you were meeting up with your colleagues for a meeting session to boost your confidence. Heavier extraits or eau de parfum  is great for a more special dinner or night event.

Time and weather is extremely important to note when layering your body products and fragrance. Malaysia is known for our humid and warm weather. If you're outdoors, choosing the right body product is key to keep yourskin feeling fresh and comfortable. In addition to that, carrying some handbag friendly products to 'top up' in between helps to elongate your fragrance durability."

Don’t: Use only perfume as fragrance or choose only the bestsellers

"You can still create a delicate and gentle aura of fragrance without using perfume. Most perfumes have its own bath lines that offer a lighter fresher version of your favourite scent. Hair mists and lotions are also a great way to achieve varying interpretations of a scent.

Bestselling fragrances or the latest fragrance might pique one’s interest, but it should not sway you from selecting a fragrance that best represents you. Perfume reveals one’s soul, Mademoiselle Chanel said herself. A fragrance should represent or bring out the best of you. After all, it is an invisible yet unforgettable accessory."
