Chanel Spring/Summer 2014

Bring out the artist in you with these pieces from the Spring 2014 collections - just in time for your visit to the Hong Kong Art Basel.

While menswear has moved on to the floral trend, womenswear takes a new turn this season in a union with art. Throughout the years, art and fashion have often collided but more often than not, it ends up as an avant-garde piece that is hardly wearable for most, bar artists like Lady Gaga and Madonna.

This season, many designers have been pushing out art-inspired looks inspired by different art mediums from pop art, comics to orient paintings and graffiti – just in time for you to prepare for the Hong Kong Art Basel.

First stop, we take a look at New York, the city that kick-starts the fashion week for every season. Diane von Furstenberg’s Avery silk printed dress makes a strong statement that reflects the colourful and vibrant city using the colour-blocking technique, a reminiscent of Piet Mondrian's work.

Moving to London, we find a selection of more candid art pieces like the Anya Hindmarch clutch where the print features still from one of our favourite 50s sci-fi films, 'Forbidden Planet'.

Dolce and Gabbana represents Milan with the pantheon printed high-waisted linen skirt while Prada has comic art all over its sportswear inspired dresses with a focus on heroine potraits.

Finally in Paris, we see a splash of paint strokes in Celiné with a highlight for the jacquard coat and Chanel puts up a collection mirroring an artist’s colour palette. After all, who can say no to a Chanel flap bag in multiple shades of paint?
