Giorgio Armani

The Tatler readers' favourite fashion designer is none other than Giorgio Armani, one of the few who can truly be called legendary.

Favourite Fashion Designer: Giorgio Armani
Giorgio Armani famously once said, “Elegance doesn’t mean being noticed, it means being remembered.” This sentiment clearly rings true for Tatler readers across Asia, as you voted the veteran Italian style icon your Favourite Fashion Designer.

“Legendary” is a term that is hugely overused in our modern age of fawning hyperbole, but if any fashion designer is deserving of the term, then it’s the tailor of Piacenza.

In a career spanning more than 50 years, Armani has become synonymous with clean lines and a refinement built on simplicity, an aesthetic that has won him countless loyal fans, including some of the world’s most stylish personalities: George Clooney recently got married in a custom Giorgio Armani tuxedo and Cate Blanchett—who Armani once said “epitomises the woman for whom I design”—is a long-time devotee.

At the ripe old age of 80, Armani is still going strong and reportedly continues to oversee every detail of his runway shows. True style, it seems, is ageless.

2nd He may be “The Kaiser” to many, but Karl Lagerfeld, the German-born creative director of Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous label, was unable to steal the crown on this occasion, forced to settle instead for second place.

3rd Sadly, Alexander McQueen is no longer with us, but the bold British designer’s legacy lives on among his legions of fans and you voted him as your third favourite designer.

Malaysia's Pick: Coco Chanel
When it comes to fashion designers, Malaysia Tatler readers clearly favour the classics. It may be more than 40 years since she departed for the great catwalk in the sky, but Coco Chanel is still your number one, taking 7 per cent of the vote alongside Giorgio Armani and the late, great Alexander McQueen.
