Rick Owens for Spring/Summer 2015

Known for its eclectic bunch of designers and unique style, London amazed us with a series of events including denim trench coats at Burberry's runway and a ghoulish party by Rick Owens.

From the exciting shows in New York Fashion Week, we fly east to London, a city known for its unique and quirky point of view. In the London shows, everything revolved around the notion of experimenting with new ideas and breaking conventions.

First we saw the classic London label, Burberry, released a series of denim outerwear instead of its signature gabardine coats. Following that, Anya Hindmarch pushed out sticker-clad tote bags inspired by her schooling days and Rick Owens who threw a edgy and cool nightmare horror themed party to celebrate its 20th year in the industry.

Here we round up five of the biggest events that happened in London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015.

Rick Owens celebrates 20 years of fashion
On the matter of rave parties., we could not deny that there is no one better to host a rave than Rick Owens. During London Fashion Week, the designer threw a nightmare-themed party at the parking lot of Selfridges as part of Selfridges’ World of Rick Owens, a month-long celebration of the designer’s 20 years of work. From ghoulish bartenders to eerie horse riders, Rick Owens channelled the best of his dark romanticism into creating this affair. It was certainly one of the most unforgettable moments in London Fashion Week’s history.

Burberry walks the denim road
For this season, Burberry showcased a series of hand-painted trench coats on a hand-painted runway – both inspired by unique 1940s book covers – but what made the headlines for the British brand was the surprising appearance of denim in the collection. Burberry brought denim back to the forefront of fashion with a collection of sexy peplum denim jackets and more importantly, stunning denim trench coats. That’s right, classic Burberry trench coats done in blue jean material. This is a trend we foresee to be on everyone’s back come spring season, especially on the 90s kids.

Back to school with Anya Hindmarch
It is the quirky details that make Anya Hindmarch stand out as a fashion designer. After her cereal box-inspired bags, Anya released a new collection of tote bags that has fun quotes and rainbows stickers plastered all over them. The designer said that the inspiration came from her schoolgirl days, where stickers were her way of personalisation. Now handcrafted in leather, the stickers allow patrons to make their own personal artwork with their bags. While the collection is only available for pre-order now, special Mickey mouse hand-shaped stickers are up for sale at the Anya Hindmarch official website.

Sophia Webster hosts a cyberpunk safari
To call Sophia Webster’s latest presentation a remarkable success is probably an understatement. Hosted in the Vaults, a series of graffiti tunnels that run beneath Waterloo Station, the brand put on a rave-inspired animal safari party to showcase her new collection of shoes, which included thigh-high strappy sandals, zebra striped pumps and floral cut-out heels. In the futuristic world setting, Sophia Webster’s new collection shined with a tinge of neon madness – one that would drive every fashionista to her boutiques.

Mary Katrantzou creates prints using texture
For a designer to succeed, one needs to always progress and experiment. That was what Mary Katrantzou aimed for, when designing her spring collection. Known for her impeccable use of digital printing, she took a step back from it and moved on to create a collection of sumptuous textured pieces using embroidered multi-colour tulle. Nevertheless, the essence of Mary Katrantzou creativity in printed motifs still remains through her unique play of texture.
