Prada Fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection

Going against the expected, Prada rolls out a fun-filled and colourful collection for the coming fall 2015.

After Prada's sombre Spring wardrobe, Miuccia Prada, the high priestess of quirky Italian fashion, injects some bold color into her mainline collection. For Fall, Prada shows us how to do grown-up retro style with eye-catching plaid, herringbone tweed and cute styling.

If it weren't for the strong tailoring, you could be forgiven for mistaking this collection for Miu Miu, Prada's girlier second line. Never has the crossover between the house's two fashion lines been more evident.

Retro-futurism seems to be the blueprint for many Italian designers this season. The trend is becoming something of a forte among Italy's finest. Prada is no exception.

While focusing on "what women like: colors, bows, decorations," Miuccia Prada told WWD backstage, the collection took a trip down memory lane, borrowing everything from prim double-breasted suiting, large lapels to baby doll dresses from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

Prada gave a lesson in color-blocking with a popping palette of shades of the 70s -- acid green, teal, purple and beige. Two-tone gauntlets, perfectly formed holdalls and pointed double-ankle strap block heels were instrumental in creating the style-setting label's riotous head-to-toe color clash.

Fantastic plaid and herringbone suits in contrasting fur collars and trim cut a dash while simple spaghetti strap dresses with graphic coral-inspired motifs and sparkly floral brooches brought more feminine softness. Other stand-out styles included ribbon-trimmed cocktails.
