Hermès Nautilus Pen

Hermès partners with Japanese renowned pen manufacturer, Pilot Pen, to create the luxury French label’s first-ever writing instrument.

Known for its extravagant style and price tag, French luxury label Hermès unveils the first-ever writing instrument, Nautilus, for its home and lifestyle collections, which will be available worldwide on September 2014.

Dedicated in incorporating technology innovations in its products, Hermès seeks out Australian industrial designer Marc Newson for the pen's design and reputable Japanese company Pilot Pen to create the pen’s mechanism, resulting in the wonder brainchild Nautilus.

Joining the league of Hermès leather notebooks, USB keys and leather accessories, the Nautilus pen is an evolution from traditional writing instrument, which holds Pilot’s unique retractable mechanism and it will be available in two versions – rollerball and fountain pen.

Artistic Director of Hermès, Pierre-Alexis Dumas says, “All of this pen’s subtlety derives from the way it works. At first glance, it looks anachronistic. There’s nothing technological about its appearance. It looks easy to use, obvious and instinctual. But it’s hiding a mechanism that’s part genius, part magic!”

Nautilus is made to withstand the test of durability with its use of solid aluminum and stainless steel and the test of time with its unique unrestrained design. The pen will make the perfect accessory for Birkin or Kelly bag owners, in addition to the iconic H bracelets, where they can truly immerse into the Hermès lifestyle.

Dumas says, “This pen marks the birth of a new family of Hermès objects. A new “clan”, in which the Nautilus is complemented by notebooks, various writing papers and envelopes, as well as leather accessories for transporting these writing materials.”

Another unique selling point of Nautilus is its specially developed ink colours including the signature Hermès red and blood orange, aside from the conventional black and blue inks.

The Nautilus pen will be going on sale at selected Hermès boutiques worldwide on September 2014, with the fountain pen retailing for 1,650 USD (RM 5,000) and the ballpoint pen for $1350 USD (RM 4,000).
