Louis Vuitton Resort 2016 collection

Held at the Bob Hope estate in Palm Springs, Louis Vuitton's desert-inspired collection by Nicolas Ghesquière was a strong juxtaposition of sturdy structure and fluid movement.

Held on the 23,000-square-foot Bob Hope estate that overlooks Palm Springs, the Louis Vuitton Resort 2016 runway was truly a sensational showcase that wowed everyone present.

The desert city made a lasting impression on Nicolas Ghesquière, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton's women's collection, who first visited Palm Springs fifteen years ago. And naturally it became the muse of this collection.

In the last few collections put out by Ghesquière, we saw plenty of structured silhouettes that evoked power and authority. And the same power dressing theme was also apparent in this collection.

Fluidity and feminity were injected into the collection to showcase a different side of the Vuitton woman – a sweet, sensational lady that is capable of a spicy kick when necessary.

Structured tops were paired with flowy pants and skirts to add fluidity to the movement, while dresses in hard leather textures still moved effortlessly as the models shimmied down the runway.

Oversized front zips, suede colour-blocking and metal studding also made its appearance on the runway and we are recognising these traits to slowly become Ghesquière's signature designs.

X-shaped belts and chunky boots were worn by the models to add the 'glamazon' factor to the collection.

The show, perfectly time during sunset, was brilliant! The warm, orange sunlight filtering through the venue juxtaposed against the golden hues of the land certainly added romance to the atmosphere. It was truly a fantastic show that was well-choreographed down to a T.

While the venue is a little off-the-beat for the Parisian brand, the 'Ghesquière x Louis Vuitton' appeal was simply too hard to resist. Celebrities and personalities from across the globe landed in Palm Springs in support of the brand including Miranda Kerr, Zhang Zi Yi and Michelle Williams.

To add a personal interaction with Louis Vuitton fans everywhere, it has become a tradition for Ghesquière to take over the brand's Instagram handle to share his personal view of the entire production (see gallery below).
