Montblanc Patron of Art Luciano Pavarotti Limited Edition Fountain pen

Pavarotti's pen sees a lacquered black barrel and white lacquer cap, symbolic for his signature black tuxedo and white shirt and bowtie he often wore to his concerts, among other features.

Ever since Montblanc introduced its annual ‘Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award’ in 1992, it has issued a limited edition fountain pen to a different patron of arts and culture every year. Henry E Steinway, Gaius Maecenas and Pope Julius the Second are among those it has created pens for in the past 23 years.

This year, the great opera icon Luciano Pavarotti has been chosen to be given the tribute with the Montblanc Patron of Art Luciano Pavarotti Limited Edition Fountain pen.

The Italian first superstar of opera will be honoured with a Montblanc 4810 pen -- Montblanc's other most popular model after the Meisterstück -- that sees a lacquered black barrel and white lacquer cap, standing in for his signature black tuxedo and white shirt and white bowtie he often wore to his concerts. A delicate red floral pattern adorns the cone, symbolic of the Hawaiian shirts he favoured when not performing.

The pen’s gold-plated clip is another toast to his style, draped around the cap like his scarves he was so fond of. Five gold-plated rings are embossed onto the cap to pay homage to the 5 operas that shot Pavarotti to international fame – ‘the Turandot’, ‘La Bohème’, ‘Rigoletto’, ‘Un ballo in maschera’ and ‘L’elisir d’amore’.

Pavarotti was also known for constantly having in his pocket a symbol of good luck, a bent nail, during all his performance. That is immortalised in the carving of a bent nail on the gold nibs of the limited edition pen.  That is a limited edition feature however, as only 750 units out of the exclusive 4810 pieces of pens will have them.
