New York's inaugural men's fashion week has left town after four days of shows dedicated solely to slick style for the boys.

From denim suits to neon parkas, there was something for every man at the event, which saw big-name labels such as Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren exhibiting their Spring/Summer 2016 collections alongside rising stars including Tim Coppens and Michael Bastian.

Over 40 brands in total either took to the catwalk or threw open their showroom doors to reveal the major eclectic trends for next season.

Calvin Kein kicked things off with an elegant, utilitarian collection with a core sporty vibe. Designer Italo Zucchelli crafted a surf-inspired series of tailored formalwear comprising sharp lines and softer textures, with macho zip detailing balanced out by the addition of padded visors and wide sandals.

Things were much more relaxed over at Michael Kors, where the dapper man's city wardrobe was given a make-under in the form of rumpled suits, drawstring trouser waists and slouchy knitwear. Rolled-up hems, pushed-up sleeves and ruched scarves combined to affirm the new, nonchalant aesthetic.

Polo Ralph Lauren took a similar approach to casual formal wear, presenting three-piece suits in denim and layering tweed blazers over sports sweaters.

Tim Coppens took things one step further, with a fluo-infused collection featuring outsized parkas with color contrast panelling, leather hoodies and quilted neon blazers.

Michael Bastian, meanwhile, debuted a collection that paid homage to the privileged movers and shakers of Bel-Air, mixing tropical palm tree prints with pinstripe suits and paisley shirts for a preppy-meets-business-meets-festival vibe. Smart brogues and leather totes sealed the deal.

New York will now hold its official men's fashion weeks twice yearly, in January and July, following the example of London, Paris and Milan, which all have fashion events dedicated to menswear.
