Chitose Abe for Nike x Sacai collection

Combining pleats, ruffles and mesh fabrics, the new NikeLab x Sacai collection is everything a fashionista need for a power workout.

Pushing the boundaries of sportswear, Nike engaged Japanese fashion studio Sacai to create a fashion forward NikeLab collection for the stylish sports-loving woman.

Recently launched in London, the new collection is designed by creative director of Sacai, Chitose Abe, who is known for her panelling technique in fashion.

Traditionally, sportswear leans towards the boxy and shapeless silhouettes, especially for outerwear, but Chitose changed this stereotype with her quirky aesthetic.

Redefining the silhouettes of traditional sportswear, we see a range of clothing with extravagant pleats and ruffles with a hint of seductive meshes that brings out the femininity in sportwear and highlights the power of motion.

Classic windbreakers are added with ruffle-pleated backs to create motion and dimension, while mesh fabrics are placed on the back part of knee-high socks for better breathabiltiy and movements. Touches of lace were also used to line the ruffles, adding an a touch of softness to the looks.

For shoes, Chitose designed a easy-to-wear laceless slipon sneakers in vibrant shades of green, blue and grey, lined with a contrasting colour.

Shades of neon yellows, hot pinks and electric blues are matched with subtle hues of grey to create this functional yet stylish collection.

Even if you don't have plans to head the gym, the collection makes a great fashion statement when worn as casualwear for a weekend day out. With its ruffles and pleats, the collection is also perfect for a little twirl and spin on the dance floor.
