Paris Men Fall/Winter Fashion Week 2014

After a week of men's fashion in Milan, Paris takes over with more exciting shows from brands like Louis Vuitton, Givenchy and Dior Homme.

After a great week at the Milan menswear fashion week, we move on to the Paris shows and it has been a great week in the city of lights with collections created by the likes of Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, Kris Van Assche for Dior Homme and more.

It seems like there are many great things in store for the dandy gentlemen for his coming fall/winter wardrobe.

Louis Vuitton
Kim Jones assembled another mix of sartorial and sporty influences, this time based around stripes. Models wore action-ready sunglasses, double-breasted suiting and fur-panelled coats and sweaters. There was an additional mountain man vibe added by the sporty hiking boots and functional belted jackets with utility pockets.

3.1 Phillip Lim
The New York City-based designer showed 1950s rock 'n' roll influences rejigged for the 21st century urban man. The designs are heavily influenced by the West, but in a fine line btween mythology and reality, making it a dark whimsical collection/ There were some excellent tight-cut leather pieces, loose slouchy knits and patterned suiting. Fun finishes included the washed-out tartan, winter florals, and metallic overlay.

Givenchy
Riccardo Tisci's models were sent out with fishnet stockings over their faces, and ahead of his collaboration with Nike, this show could certainly be described as full-on flirtation, teasing at the apex where American streetwear meets American sportswear. The runway's chainlink fence provided the key to the abstract geometric basketball pattern detailing on the clothes. Pants were more ample this season: worn over chunky sneakers, they featured oversized pocket tabs in contrast colors. Furs and angora added a little luxe edge.

Wooyoungmi
The South Korean designer went minimalist with her sporty tailoring this season. Shirting with gold foil applied, check patterns, pinstripes, and tailored shorts worn over the top of trousers were all key to attract the young gentlemen who appreciate good tailored pieces. She also ticked this year's trend for double-breasted top coats.

Dior Homme
At Dior Homme, Kris Van Assche was inspired by the great man himself. He sent out models with crystal tie pins in sharp pinstripe and polka dot suits and furs, some featuring Lily of the Valley (Christian Dior's good luck charm) floral embroidery. There was some streetwise edge to the denim and green military field jackets, functional pocket jackets and sharp-cut coats.

Thom Browne
The New York City-based designer's trademark gray suiting came in a range of pinstripes, solid wools, and checks, all finished with a frayed effect on the seams and hemlines. An interesting selection of headgear ranged from tiny animal hats and masks to giant tailored elephant heads. Browne finished with a blown-up brocade of a monochrome leaf motif which appeared on bulbous structured outerwear.
