Once again this year, rugged watches for athletes, pilots and divers are among the standout models for men.

Baselworld has wrapped up in Switzerland, which means it's time to survey the watch trends on the horizon for 2015. Once again this year, rugged watches for athletes, pilots and divers are among the standout models for men.

This edition of Baselworld was not the first to shine the spotlight on diving and aviation watches. Bell & Ross, a watchmaker that forged its reputation through timepieces for military pilots and minesweepers, has become popular with a much wider audience in recent years. In Basel, the brand revealed its latest chronograph watch, the BR-XI, which has a rugged, utilitarian design that is bound to appeal to aspiring adventurers.

Another notable new timepiece for pilots is the Chrono Worldtimer by Hamilton. Located at the center of the dial, the chronograph indicator has yellow markings around the first four minutes, a feature inspired by the freestyle program in air competitions.

Among diving watches, Certina made a strong impression in Basel with its new DS Podium Big Size Chronograph, which is waterproof up to 200 meters and has glow-in-the-dark indices.

Meanwhile, Gucci updated its Gucci Dive line with four new models, which are also waterproof up to 200 meters.

Finally, in the age of the smartwatch, Tissot came to Basel with a new touchscreen timepiece that runs on solar power. While the T-Touch Expert Solar does not have internet connectivity, it does include an altimeter, air pressure monitoring and a compass, among other useful features for outdoorsmen on solo treks.
