Ever pondered the fate of food waste of hotels and restaurants at the end of the day? They usually get disposed off in open landfills or could end up serving a more sustainable purpose – which brings us to FOLO Farms.

The social enterprise recently made headlines as the finalist of the Chivas Regal’s The Venture competition, with a live pitch of their noble initiative that turns waste into compost for 300kg organic vegetables per week – a sum that feeds the estimated 80 families of this farm-to-consumer model. 

FOLO Farms will be joining 30 finalists from six different continents, vying for a share of a US$1 million fund. The criteria of this global search for the next generation of society enterprises: a business offering scalable and sustainable solutions to solve real world issues.

Ahead of the competition, finalists will take part in the Chivas The Venture Accelerator Week by The Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Oxford.
