Since not all cafés are conducive to working remotely, we've rounded up a handful where you can comfortably transcribe an interview or beat writer's block

Located in the family-friendly neighbourhood of Taman Mayang, Milligram's teal-hued interior plays host to college students and working millennials in need of a cosy hideaway with reliable WiFi. My favourite comfort food here is the mac & cheese, but if I'm at Milligram to get down to business minus the cheesy distraction, I'll opt for an espresso and the cilantro lime rice with salmon flakes. The café is busiest on the weekends, but if you're there on a weekday, you'll get to enjoy its peaceful ambience until as late as 11pm.

TATLER TIP: Milligram's WiFi password is the name of the sleepy cat that lounges at the storefront.

2. Alcea Coffee

There is nothing more satisfying than talking to a barista who loves and knows his craft inside out. Alcea Coffee became an instant favourite not only because of its friendly and knowledgeable team, but also because of its calm atmosphere (save for lunchtime). The café has ample charging points and is the perfect place to write and work. If you drop by, definitely sample their rotating selection of specialty drip coffees.

3. Kissa X Coffee

Previously a pop-up at ISETAN The Japan Store, Kissa X Coffee now has its own nook in TTDI. Although I'm loath to divulge my secret spot, good things must be shared! Outfitted with handsome furniture and banker lamps, the first floor café overlooking a tree-lined street feels like a little slice of Scandinavia. The slow coffee movement advocate is staffed with baristas who take the time to check in on you, and are always happy to answer any inquiries about their coffee. Head to the back of the store to scout out a well-curated selection of lifestyle products for sale. Check out Kissa X Coffee's short and sweet menu here.

4. FEEKA Coffee Roasters

Specialising in artisanal, locally-brewed coffee, this café with tons of plant-based options hits the spot for me. Get comfortable in the lush green courtyard or stay cool in the air-conditioned interior — Feeka caters to different moods. Whatever your caffeine go-to, whether it's a hot matcha or an iced latte, you can always count on them. My favourites include the iced matcha latte with soy milk, the ricotta pancakes, and the veggie burger.

5. Starbucks Signing Store in Bangsar Village

Before you dismiss my 'boring' choice, take stock of the many reasons why Starbucks is my preferred place to work. Firstly, there's the easy access. You can find a Starbucks in any neighbourhood. Secondly, I enjoy the consistency and familiarity. All its stores are designed similarly and so are the drinks, so I get the familiar taste of my favourite drink no matter which outlet I visit. There are also sufficient power points to charge your laptop, so there's no need to cross swords with other customers. Loyalty points aside, another plus point is that Starbucks carries out charitable projects for the community.
