7 Of The Best Sourdough Spots In KL And PJ
Whichever way you like your toast, nothing quite beats a slice of freshly baked sourdough bread. Whether you prefer to dine-in at a bakery-café with a cup of black coffee or buy a loaf back to enjoy at your own ease, we’ve compiled a list of bakeries and restaurants that serve some of the best sourdough in town.
1/7 Huckleberry Food and Fare
Located in the heart of Damansara Heights, Huckleberry Food and Fare's first branch is a crowd favourite for brunch. Its shelves are stacked with artisan bread, so it’s no wonder the café is always buzzing to the brim with both fresh and familiar faces. For RM12.50, you’ll be able to bring home a loaf of their sourdough bread.
Take your pick of Miche Sourdough, Miche Sourdough Wholemeal or Multigrain Sourdough. If you can spare some time to take a seat, savour your bread with slices of fresh avocado, dukkah and lime—or perhaps a side of house-made fruit preserve or kaya (coconut jam) tickles your palate?
Do check out Huckleberry's newer outlet in Bangsar Shopping Centre if that makes more sense for you geographically.

2/7 Dou Dou Bake
Opened by the same team that gave us Transparent Coffee and One Half x ilaika, Dou Dou Bake is a new favourite amongst pastry enthusiasts for their baked goods. While sourdough is the star of the menu at Transparent Coffee, Dou Dou has a wider menu; however, this doesn’t stop their sourdough from shining.
You know they take their bread seriously, as the moment you enter their doors, the first thing you're welcomed by is the distinct smell of freshly baked sourdough and buttery croissants. A slice of sourdough is included in the Dou Dou Breakfast, and paired with locally-made cheese in the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. You can also have it on its own with Malden sea salt, olive oil and molasses.

3/7 Kenny Hills Bakers
What started off as a small bakery in 2014 has expanded into three outlets in Bukit Tunku, Desa Park City and Jalan Ampang. Kenny Hills Bakers carries seven different types of sourdough, including the Sourdough Baguette and healthier options such as the Rye Sourdough and Eight-Grain Sourdough. Opt for one of their sandwiches if you're dining in and enjoy their sourdough as part of a Roast Beef Sandwich or Croque Monsieur.

4/7 Universal Bakehouse
Just feasting your eyes on Universal Bakehouse’s Instagram feed will get your mouth watering; you can almost taste their sourdough's bouncy chew and crunchy exterior. Tempt your tastebuds with their Olive and Walnut Sourdough, Honey Oat Sourdough and unique Apple Sourdough.
If those flavours aren’t enough to excite you, check out their three other sourdough options. At Table and Apron next door, their sourdough is a regular accompaniment to their sharing plates, and go well with whipped ricotta, mackerel pâté or the tomato walnut spread.

5/7 Dough & Dolce
Use Dough & Dolce's sourdough to mop up their Butter Cream Chilli Clams, enjoy it as part of their Pesto Chicken Sandwich or pair it with some baked garlic and rosemary Camembert (drooling!)—this is just the tip of the iceberg of how the beloved bakery serves up their sourdough.
Open since 2019, the bakery takes pleasure in being able to produce everything from scratch using top-quality ingredients. If toast isn't to your taste, other sourdough options include the Margherita or Pepperoni sourdough pizzas, served on their lunch menu. Add on some cheeky burrata for a treat.

6/7 Smith – Wood-Fire Oven Breadsmiths
Only open for breakfast and brunch, Smith puts sourdough at the forefront of its menu, devoting an entire section on their breakfast menu to it. You’ll be spoilt for choice with an abundance of accompaniments and spreads (the sun-dried tomato pesto sounds particularly appetising).
Also, who knew eggs on toast could be presented in so many creative ways? Served from 11am—4pm, their sourdough-centric brunch menu includes toasties and tartines, from the Beef Brisket Toastie oozing mozzarella and cheddar to the lighter Smoked Salmon Tartine filled with cucumber and red onions.

While LI specialises in Asian offerings, its sister bakery Provisions focuses on baked goods. Their Walnut Raisin Sourdough, Rye Sourdough and Wholemeal Sourdough can be brought home as whole loaves or polished off in house. Enjoy their slow scrambled eggs with tomato jam as part of their breakfast menu, but fret not if you don't wake up in time—their sourdough is available all day with a variety of spreads, or as sandwiches past noon.
