1. Local Champion: Bar Trigona

Crowned the "Best New Bar" and the "Best Hotel Bar" in the recent The Bar Awards 2018, this cocktail den rightfully deserves the accolades. Bar Trigona is beautiful, serves inventive cocktails and is strategically located downtown at Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur, giving you no excuse not to drink well when in the area. Their focus on shining a light on locally sourced ingredients also gets two thumbs up from us.

2. New American: Birch

Restaurant and bar Birch focuses on new American fare, with their food and drink made to work off each other. But we're talking about their drinks here and boy do they impress, like the pina clear-ada, the California daquiri and and the whisky and coke fashioned. To enhance your drinking experience, order a few sides and you've got yourself an easy recipe for a good night out.

3. All-Round Excellence: Coley

It's no secret that we hold this Bangsar bar in high regard. After all, it did win "Bar Of The Year – Kuala Lumpur" twice in a year in the recent The Bar Awards 2018. What we love about Coley isn't only their enjoyable cocktails, with a selection of great locally inspired "koktels", it's also their bar team, who are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.

4. Japanese Chic: Bar Shake

The latest and newest cocktail bar we visited, Bar Shake is unmistakably Japanese, bringing with it exotic Japanese spirits and the attention to detail the Japanese are so well known for. Osamu Kinugawa helms the bar, a veteran bartender from Tokyo that isn't afraid to mix his expert knowledge of classic cocktails with that of Japanese and Malaysian ingredients to satisfying results.

5. Happy Hour Value: Brasserie Fritz

Downtown casual French eatery Brasserie Fritz has two bars to satisfy all your spiritual needs. This place really shines during 4PM to 8PM, that magical time of the day also known as Happy Hour, as a selection of four drinks go for RM15++ per pour, ranging from red and white wine to a gin and tonic and a wine spritz. Buying a reasonably priced drink will also get you complimentary light bites.

6. All About Wine: Kikubari

Sake can be as complex as wine but luckily for us there's a restaurant that understands good sake and all the benefits of pairing it with Japanese food. Kikubari is that place, with two talented sommeliers helping drinkers to find the right rice wine for any occasion, no matter if you're there for a full degustation experience or just for a few glasses.

7. Uniquely Exotic: Goa

There's no place like Goa, the modern Indian restaurant that continues to fascinate us. With drinks like rasam shooters to excite the palate, spiked mango lassi cocktails to sneakily lift your mood and alcoholic chai masala cocktails to give you something new to experience, you've got no shortage of Indian-inspired drinks to have a good time with friends over here. And don't even get us started about their delicious bar bites.

8. The Anytime Visit: 443 Bar Lounge

The Westin Kuala Lumpur's rebranded bar dubbed the 443 Bar Lounge is a good place to get classic cocktails anytime of the day. Our favourites here? The caipirinha and sangria cocktails are incredibly easy to enjoy, making them perfect for when you want to kickback, enjoy the ambiance of the lounge and get away from the Bukit Bintang bustle. If you're bored, ask the long serving bartender for a story and he'll jokingly tell you that he has as many to tell as the bar's namesake.
