When at a loss of what to eat, we’ve found ourselves more than a few times looking to Nexus, Bangsar South, to offer up something whether we’re craving for Japanese, Chinese or Thai. Now there’s more reason to pop by with the opening of Fratello Italiano on the second floor, adding Italian cuisine to the repertoire of food at the sleek, shiny complex.

Warm, cozy and all-around charming with wooden furnishings to evoke the quaint authenticity of an Italian home kitchen, pastas and pizzas are needless the order of the day here, made doubly indulgent with generous portions of seafoods and meats in true-blue Italian manner. A very nice touch is also that most everything is housemade, from the pasta and pizzas to the sauces and gravies, free of MSG and any artificial preservatives and colouring.

A tasting session at the launch of the restaurant earlier this month showcased to us the chefs’ skills in preparing seafood and harvesting its natural flavours to bring out the best of the dish.

Succulent mussels, prawns and squid adorn our seafood soup starter. Its tomato base was just thick enough to be called a solid stew and its initial tartness was well rounded off with ample sea sweetness of the seafood.

Another dish that got our attention well and good was the fettucini nero con gamberi. Springy squid ink pasta tossed in a simple garlic-based sauce enticed us with a fragrance unlike any other. Large juicy prawns will satiate to craving of the biggest prawn lovers.

Fratello’s skills are also illustrated with its meats, in particular, its rack of lamb. Despite being well done, the meat maintained its succulence and each bite floods the palate with full game and flavour thanks to a housemade marinade.

A trip here wouldn't be complete without an order of its handmade, thin-crust pizzas, the signature of the house. Choose from classic flavours like the margarita or the four-cheese, or get a little more adventurous with fusion options that are nonetheless just as enticing.

Look forward to all the above and over two dozen if not more dishes from the menu, each a true tribute to the best flavours of Italy. For more information or reservation enquiries, check out their official Facebook here.
