The single malt Scotch whisky's Chinese New Year gift box can be personalised with a trippy pop up message

Floating lanterns, hot air balloons, stylised clouds and cherry blossoms fill the air when you tap into Glenfiddich's augmented reality experience this Chinese New Year. The fantastical animations are part and parcel of a collaboration with Shenzhen-based Chinese illustrator Rlon Wang, whose whimsical art adorns Glenfiddich's imaginative gift pack.

Classically trained in Chinese painting, Wang has nevertheless found his own style, which sees a curdling of Eastern and Western aesthetics. In his package design for Glenfiddich, the artist portrays the mighty stag, the maltmen's official mascot, as having arrived 'home.' The creative catalyst for the design? China's great migration, whereby more than 200 million people go to great lengths to be reunited with relatives every Chinese New Year.

"I wanted to tell a story that evokes the warmth and excitement of Lunar New Year, the irreplaceable feeling and anticipation of finally coming home to loved ones," Wang shares. "Inspired by the Glenfiddich spirit of experimentation and adventure, I created an illustration that comes alive with symbols of generations old and new. I loved playing with the symbiosis of Chinese and Scottish cultures—two connected countries on opposite sides of the world."
