Hennessy 8, the work of Master Blender Yann Fillioux and his nephew, Renaud Fillioux de Gironde is a cognac that represents the peak of Hennessy perfection.

Just a year after celebrating its 250th anniversary, Hennessy is marking a bitter-sweet moment as Master Blender Yann Fillioux prepares to hand over his role, title and keys to the cellar but not before releasing a one-of-a-kind blend: Hennessy 8.

The passing of the torch marks the seventh time in the cognac maker’s history that this has happened, with each consecutive Master Blender being a descendant of the last. Renaud Fillioux de Gironde will be the 8th generation Fillioux to fill the prestigious position, dating back to the 1800s, when James Hennessy chose Jean Fillioux as his Master Blender. A member of the Hennessy tasting committee for the past 14 years, Renaud will continue to hone his skills under the mentorship of his uncle, and succeed him in due course.

“Hennessy∙8 is a small miracle! It’s a taster’s dream come true.”

Hennessy 8 is the end result of 5 years of work by uncle and nephew in crafting a cognac that represents the peak of Hennessy perfection. Made with a blend of eight eaux-de-vie, seven of which were hand-picked by Yann Fillioux, to represent himself and the six generations before him, before being capped off with a final eaux-de-vie chosen by Renaud Fillioux de Gironde.

This blend of past, present and future saw the Maison give its Master Blender and his protégé freedom to express their creativity and craft a cognac that Hennessy has never seen and may never see again.

Described by Yann Fillioux as “a miracle” and “a taster’s dream come true”, Hennessy asked renowned artist, and familiar collaborator Arik Levy to design a container worthy of its Master Blender’s masterpiece. The end result is a uniquely crafted, hand-blown Baccarat crystal carafe worthy of Hennessy 8. Featuring eight inset rings, an engraved crystal stopper and a copper silk thread around the bottle’s collar with a “H” medallion sealed by a ribbon, the carafe is expertly crafted to complement the expertise of the Maison.

To cap it all off, Hennessy 8 is cradled in a chest made using 25 layers of Oak, with each layer representing a decade of Hennessy’s history, while the inner grooves of the chest that hug the carafe are lined with copper.

The hand-delivered chest will also come with a dedicated key, a personalised authentication plate and a numbered certificate signed by Yann Fillioux himself.

Only 250 individually numbered editions of Hennessy 8 have been made, and are available directly through Moët Hennessy Malaysia. For more information, email info@mhdm.com.my.
