The year has barely begun but 2017 is shaping up to be quite a culinary expedition for us and we’re marking our culinary calendar with debut announcements of French patisserie brands and a healthy Brazilian dessert.

1. Tifin

Tatler Asia

The hipper, casual sibling of Kumar’s restaurant aims to spread its Indian specialties in a more modern atmosphere. You’ll instinctively abandon cutlery (save for a straw) for the black pepper bone marrow, and be overwhelmed by the comforts of a creamy murgh malai tikka drumstick and spiced, fluffy chicken briyani. The dignified way to wash it down is with a Tifin Toddy, a fine imitation of a toddy-less toddy cocktail. Stay tuned to Kumar's Facebook page for more updates.

2. Cabana

Tatler Asia

The land of Gisele Bündchen and football luminaries is also known for the exotic and nutrient-dense açaí (ah-sigh-ee) fruit, which is typically enjoyed as an energising dessert. Cabana introduces açaí bowls and smoothies, served with granola, fresh fruit, and superfood toppings, made from imported açaí pulp from Brazil, and ingredients sourced locally and internationally. Ride their tropical vibes here

3. Ladurée

Tatler Asia

Gone are the days of hand-carrying Ladurée macarons on the plane. The French tearoom synonymous for exquisite sugary creations and pretty pastries can expect snaking queues when it opens at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s Couture Zone. For now, we’ll join the masses in keeping our eyes on their Facebook page for updates.

4.  PAUL

Tatler Asia

Looks like our taste in pastries have now been upgraded: French bakery PAUL, another cult favourite, is set to for a new home in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Time-honed bakes of this family company that we’re most excited to try are éclairs, viennoiserie, tarts and fruit-based cakes. No official launch announcements as of now, so feed your eyes here on buttery offerings to anticipate.

5. Duddha

Tatler Asia

We never tasted a dish that didn’t blow our minds at Duddha. Here, modern Southeast Asian cuisine is reconstructed to ‘flirt’ with our tastebuds, in surprise creations like the carbon battered lemon sole with smoked garlic mayo and calamansi, green curry saltwater barramundi with bone marrow rice, and caramelised pumpkin rice cake with smoked coconut ice cream. Fall under Duddha’s spell here

Quick: while the crowds nosh on these latest openings, revisit December's debut food joints.
