To celebrate World Sake Day, held annually on October 1, popular sake house Nomi Tomo will be celebrating the occasion with Malaysia's first ever sake festival.

Taking place on October 13, the inaugural sake festival will take place at The Gasket Alley and will feature rice wines from 10 breweries across the Akita, Yamagata, Kochi and Niigata prefectures in Japan.

Four certified expert sake sommeliers will also be present to educate guests, including Micky Chan and Elliot Faber, two Hong Kong based sommeliers awarded with the prestigious "Sake Samurai" title given by The Japan Sake Brewers Association Junior Council.

Guests will be able to learn various aspects of the wine, such as the eight common sake types with specially designated names, distinguishing and tasting the differences between junmai daiginjo-shu, daiginjo-shu and so forth.

Sake, more commonly known as nihonshu to the Japanese, is starting to pick up in popularity not only in Malaysia but across the globe thanks to its versatility. Here in KL, certain Japanese restaurants have already begun pairing their foods with sake, making for a heightened dining experience.
