From January 11 to 14, Chef Mario Cittadini invites you to discover authentic Italian fare, with a dash of the contemporary at Mandarin Oriental KL. We sample his 7-course dinner menu and bring you a few highlights of our meal.

At the heart of Tuscan cuisine are three attributes – high quality ingredients, natural flavours and fresh produce – which 1-Michelin Star chef, Mario Cittadini of Il Postale, Italy, waxes lyrical through a medley of delightful dishes. Having honed a culinary background in his hometown restaurant, the chef continues to uphold the traditional fare in his 16 years of extensive culinary experience in fine dining restaurants.

From January 11-14, Chef Mario will be presenting an exclusive series of Italian gourmet delicacies at the Mandarin Grill, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. Diners will discover a newfound respect for authentic Italian gastronomy, which the chef puts a contemporary spin to.

For lunch, pick from 3-, 4- and 5-course menus, while dinner sees a 5- or 7-course affair. Dishes include handmade tagliolini with meatballs ragout, poached Atlantic codfish with ‘childhood memory white sauce’, and white chocolate biscuit with lemon curd and chamomile sorbet.

Here are some menu highlights from our recent tasting of his 7-course dinner menu:

Tortelli

Parmesan emulsion and black truffle caviar tortellini showcases simple yet quality ingredients cooked masterfully. The dough gives off a nice chew, revealing a gooey frothy parmesan stuffing that gives off a sharp taste, playing upon the flavours of the black truffle caviar.

Brasato

Slow braised Australian beef cheek, mushrooms and black truffle make up the dinner menu's main course. The beef itself is extremely soft and succulent, enhanced by a subtle presence of truffles and mushrooms. Served with avocado and mushroom puree infused with truffles on the side, this dish is truly a treat.

Pre-Dessert

The chef's playful and inventive take on the traditional tiramisu, this "caviarsu" featured coffee flavoured caviar resting atop a combination of hazelnut crunch and subtle use of pop-rocks, to playful effect. Delicious, inventive and well worth the price of admission.
