As a bartender, I love playing around and experimenting with new cocktail mixes and unexpected flavour combinations, so Monkey Shoulder’s playful brand persona as well as their commitment to the unconventional has always been something that I have admired.

As the face of the brand, Ng is responsible for bringing Monkey Shoulder’s story and mischievous attitude to life across Malaysia. While Malaysia has matured into a strong single malt whisky market over the years, Monkey Shoulder has the perfect mix to attract both seasoned whisky drinkers as well as a younger audience.

The sky is the limit when it comes to enjoying this malt whisky, which was designed to be mixed by anyone and in just about anything. Ng is partial to the Monkey Root Beer, a simple concoction that includes Monkey Shoulder and A&W Root Beer, that is sure to bring back childhood memories. For those looking for something more complex, the Mamie Taylor might just be the thing for you:

Mamie Taylor Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

  • 45ml Monkey Shoulder
  • 15ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • Ginger beer

Instructions

Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker well. Strain into a tall glass full of ice. Top with ginger beer (ginger ale is ok too, but beer is tastier!). Garnish with an orange slice.

Monkey Shoulder is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a fun, super mixable, easy to drink scotch whisky to share over a good catch-up with friends!

Here's a fun fact: Before ending up on the label of a whisky bottle, Monkey Shoulder was associated with a muscle injury that workers would get from repeatedly flipping large quantities of malted barley as part of the whisky making process. In a world where rare single malt whiskys reign supreme, Monkey Shoulder sets itself apart by being a 100 per cent malt whisky made especially for mixing.
