Available for lunch and dinner on December 31, as well as January 1, the Omakase menu will show off the best of that Japanese-Peruvian cuisine Nobu is known for.

There won't be many better seats in Kuala Lumpur, with a view over the city and a front row seat to the fireworks display to mark the arrival of 2017.

And because such grandiose deserves a gastronomical experience to match, executive chef Philip Leong and his team at Nobu KL will be crafting a 7-course Omakase menu to tantalise your tastebuds.

Available for lunch and dinner on December 31, as well as January 1, the menu will show off the best of that Japanese and Japanese-Peruvian cuisine Nobu is known for, and is sure to have you in the merriest state of mind to usher in the New Year.

Having had the pleasure of tasting the menu myself, here are some of the highlights you can look forward to:

New Year’s Zensai Moriawase

Start with a tasting plate of some decadent bits and bobs with an oyster shooter, a morsel of Ankimo with caviar, a lily root ceviche, black soy beans (kuromame) and herring roe (kazunoko). The starter touches every flavour profile, provides a variety of textures and quite simply awakens the palate.

Assorted Sushi

What you see is what you get with the Chu Toro, Madai, Ikura Sake Cup, and the House Special Roll -- fresh fish and sushi rice that need neither soy sauce nor wasabi, although they’re there should you want them.

Seared Kodai salad

Although officially labelled a salad, the main focus here is the seared baby sea bream (Kodai), sprinkled with dry miso and fried garlic. The greens, beet rolled daikon radish and yuzu olive oil provide the acidity to balance the dish out.

Grilled lobster with jalapeno sauce

The jalapeno finally makes an appearance and it certainly doesn’t flatter to deceive. The lobster is grilled rather simply to allow the jalapeno sauce to give this mid meal dish the spicy kick it deserves; a genuine plate cleaner.

Kobe with truffle Tamari sauce

If you thought “lobster” was the end of the decadence, try Kobe beef instead. Cooked medium-rare to perfection, you won’t just be cleaning your plate, you’ll be doing it silently, with only the occasional, inaudible moan of pleasure.

Cheesecake and green tea Kuzu Mochi

After a lobster dashi palate cleanser, end on the beautifully constructed cheesecake and green tea mochi. A well thought out and layered dessert that is sweet, sour and bitter -- it’s the perfect way to wait for the fireworks.

The 7-course Omakase dinner is priced at RM580++ per person. For an elevated celebration and a slightly more Japanese experience, for RM780++ per person you can include a masu of Junmai Daiginjio from the sake barrel served by kimono clad ladies to your dinner.

The New Year’s lunch on the other hand, is a 5-course adaptation of the dinner priced at RM250++ per person.
