From baked skin with beetroot to diced hawthorn with chestnut paste, mooncakes by Tao Chinese Cuisine are nothing short of extraordinary.

In our recent '5 unique mooncake flavours not to miss this Mid-Autumn Festival' feature, one of Tao Chinese Cuisine's mooncake creations, snow skin peanut butter mooncake with purple potato paste and yam omachi, was included.

But it was a tough choice for us to choose just one because there are more to its wide variety of flavours that entice our palates like the baked snow skin mooncake infused with pandan, salted egg yolk and beetroot powder.

Here, we share with you four other flavours from the respected Chinese restaurant of InterContinental Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

From its baked mooncake series, the highlight is definitely the baked scarlet snow skin with pandan salted egg bean paste and beetroot powder

With hints of pandan infused into its salted egg bean paste, the mooncake is light on the palate and makes a perfect treat over a cup of jasmine tea. The touch of earthiness from the beetroot also helps to liven up the mild pandan flavours, while keeping the saltiness in check.

For dessert lovers that prefer less sweet options, the mini yam and white skin with pumpkin and green tea paste is a great option. Using green tea to create a bittersweet combo, this particular mooncake features acidic and earthy nuances, unlike any other. For the needed touch of sweetness, pumpkin paste is added to marry the yam and green tea flavours.

Another great snow skin option is the mini chestnut paste with diced hawthorn and pineapple paste. Buttery and fleshy on the palate, the use of chestnut paste might sound heavy to most, but thanks to the added zest from pineapples, the chestnut flavours are mellowed out to a fine finish. As for diced hawthorn, it replaces the conventional salted egg yolk to add the needed bite to the mooncake and also adds an aromatic finish to the overall tasting notes.

Priced at RM20++ per piece, the daily baked mooncakes come in a beautifully crafted box, which makes it a great option as a gift to family and friends. It is available at InterContinental Hotel Kuala Lumpur from now till 27th September 2015.
