Unlike most restaurants, the buffet at The Resort Cafe focuses solely on Asian food where rice and noodles reign galore over breads and pastas.

Asian food stands its own in the worldwide map of cuisines. Rich in spices, every mouthful presents multi-dimensional flavours that stretch the palate in a manner that is incomparable by cuisines of any other region.

For a taste of the best of Asia, Sunway Hotel Resort & Spa has just the thing with the opening of its new all-day dining restaurant, The Resort Café. Unlike most restaurants, the buffet here focuses solely on Asian food where rice and noodles reign galore over breads and pastas.

Here's why The Resort Cafe is where to be whether you’re craving for Chinese, Malay, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian, Thai, or even Lebanese, to be enjoyed amidst an equally colourful interior to boot.

A colourful salad bar greets you the moment you walk into the restaurant. Red, green, purple, yellow and orange vegetables make for a vibrant puzzle that matches the flamboyant walls and ceiling of the cafe. The variety of fresh greens is matched by the café’s myriad of dressing and sauces, with which you can mix and match an endless array of salads as you like.

Beyond the salad bar, Asian delights can be spotted at a single sweep of the eye. First to catch ours was the Chinese counter where freshly roasted chicken and duck gleam in a tantalising golden brown. You can choose to have it with rice, noodles or on its own; just place your order with the Chinese chef and he’ll have your preferred choice of meat chopped and served to you, piping hot. Next to the stall, steaming pots of soup await. On rotation, assam laksa, laksa lemak, prawn noodles and more are served.

5- TRC Malay Rojak.jpg -

The Malay counter spills over with local fish curries and beef rendang, with which white rice is available in copious amounts to accompany. A highlight here is the local Malay rojak, a peanut-based salad of chopped vegetables and savoury meats and seafood. The same option to pick what you want is applied here too, where it is easy to get spoiled with choice from the variety of fishballs and tofu, to deep-fried prawns, crab meats and cucur udang. Once you choose what you want, they are cut up for you, drizzled in fresh peanut sauce and tossed before your eyes.

Indian delights are not missed with different curries lined up all in a row alongside rice and a variety of prata breads. Fragrant, rich and steaming hot upon being spooned onto your plate, lovers of spices will successfully get their cravings satisfied here.

For a steer away from the hot and spicy, milder Middle-Eastern food will hit the spot. No longer will you have to wait for seasonal Middle Eastern buffets to get a taste of hummus, tabbouleh, goat cheese and naan breads; the best of Lebanese cuisine are available here at The Resort Café all year round. The veggies prove fresh and crunchy, the cheeses well-cured and fragrant and the breads, incredibly soft and fluffy.

1- TRC Japanese.jpg -

Japanese cuisine also has a representative on the menu. It may occupy only a small corner, but its offerings make up for it in quality in terms of thick, succulent slices of sashimi. The salmon and tuna sashimi taste as fresh as they look – springy, firm slices with ample colour that are laced with the natural sweetness of the sea. Shelled prawns on skewers accompany them for quick bite-sized snacks. All of them are efficiently topped up upon being cleaned out, an occurrence which takes place on very high intervals.

In between trips to the buffet counter, waiters also walk about the place with freshly grilled tandoori meat, seafood, and roasted vegetables on skewers. If you fancy any of them, just stop the respective waiter and lamb, chicken wings, and beef cutlets are sliced directly onto your plate with a smile.

7- TRC Dessert.jpg -

As vast as the options are, try to save a little space for dessert. The dessert counter sends one into a sugar high just looking at it. A towering chocolate fountain serves as a mesmerising centerpiece, alongside an Eiffel Tower made of chocolate. Colourful macarons, shortcake, cupcakes, and sweets sit like flowers at the height of spring around the two. Here, local dessert like kuih lapis, kuih seri muka and kuih talam sit alongside Western sweets like bread pudding, crème brulee and strawberry parfaits. The artisanal ice cream comes in the widest array of flavours we’ve encountered yet, from the more familiar tiramisu and green tea, to the more exotic passionfruit and nangka.

Whichever you choose to indulge in, they promise to make for the perfect sweet ending to your meal, especially when had with a steaming cup of coffee.
