The Austrian chef will forever be associated with Californian cuisine and cited as a driving force in the ingredient-focused style of modern-day fine-dining restaurants across America. 1. 1982: Wolfgang's First Book

Published in 1981, Wolfgang Puck’s Modern French Cooking For The American Kitchen marks the celebrity chef’s first foray into the world of culinary media. Covering basic cooking equipment, techniques, and definitions as well as recipes for classic French dishes like crème de champignons, this must-read book is an approachable expression of Puck’s tremendous experiences in the kitchen, both as a professional chef with years of training at top-tier restaurants, and as a gastronome driven by childhood memories of his grandmother’s food.

Since then, Puck has continued to author a handful of other best-selling cookbooks and star in numerous films and television shows, and he’s even nabbed an Emmy for his cooking series Wolfgang Puck, affirming his status as a celebrity chef.

2. 1982: The Opening of Spago

A year after the publication of his first book, Puck opened Spago, his first flagship restaurant. Although the renowned establishment now calls Beverly Hills its home, Spago has attracted international acclaim since its beginnings at West Hollywood. His remarkable work at the restaurant has decorated Puck with an assortment of prestigious accolades such as the James Beard Foundation Award for Restaurant of the Year, Michelin Stars, and the James Beard Foundation award for Outstanding Chef of the Year—to date, he is the only chef who’s been crowned with the last of these multiple times.

3. 1995: Wolfgang Puck Caters His First Governors Ball

The world-renowned Hollywood-based restaurant, Spago, captivated the taste buds of many high-profile celebrities. Therefore, it was only natural to have this celebrity chef cater the Academy Awards’ post-ceremony gala. From his first Governors Ball in 1995, Puck has continued to wow the A-list attendees at the annual affair, celebrating his 25th consecutive gala in 2019.

4. 2000: Wolfgang Puck Goes Worldwide

Although Puck had already opened restaurants in global destinations such as CUT at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and re/Asian Cuisine at the Four Seasons Bahrain Bay, the establishment of Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, Inc. truly solidified his international presence.  The corporation’s dining concepts include consumer products like wine and cookware, as well as casual and fast-casual dining segments in some of the world’s biggest airports, casinos and many more.

5. 2017: Wolfgang Puck Gets A Hollywood Star

With all of these milestones in mind, Puck is certainly more than just a chef with celebrity patronage—he is truly a star in his own right. The talented gastronome has even received his very own star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2017 for converging “the industry of food into the comfort of entertainment”.
