Where & What To Eat: The Hub At SS2
Cloud or croissant? We'd like to think that the abstract hole in the wall at Flakes represents the latter, but really, it could anything—the eye sees what the mind knows.
Specialising in France's most popular export, Flakes churns out croissants in a multitude of flavours and styles: dipped in egg batter and served as French toast, drizzled with zebra-like chocolate stripes, or rolled in cinnamon sugar. We stifled a smile when we saw the Oeufs la Pute (French for 'whore's eggs') on the menu; despite its unsavoury moniker, there's nothing illicit about this legit breakfast sandwich.
Most Malaysians naturally associate Italian food with olive oil and Mediterranean flavours, but Gooddam is giving Northern Italian fare the representation it needs; bounteous amounts of lard and butter are slathered onto sourdough bread, coat individual strands of housemade pasta, or serve as a dish's base.
The proprietors are picky about the quality of their ingredients, choosing only the best single-origin chocolate and Italian wines, which makes Gooddam's degustations (RM179+ for 5 courses or RM229+ for 7 courses) all the more worth it. A minimum of two pax must order the said menus in advance.
3/7 Kooky Cream
Look for the neon signage of Kooky Cream's logo—a cartoon character licking her lips—to locate this cakery and café next to The Language Arts Studio. Kooky Cream is where one whiles away a lazy Sunday afternoon with a paperback in one hand and a fork in the other. Decorative macramé, potted plants and framed art make up the décor at this airy eatery with an open kitchen.
With almost 20 different desserts on display (not including the shaved ices or ice cream) it's easy to get cold feet, so allow us to narrow down your options: opt for the tofu cheesecake to relish its cool, silken texture or the rose lychee cake with prized Korean strawberries. Otherwise, Kooky Cream boasts innumerable types of mille crêpe.

4/7 Little Pig
Chef Yu Khim, who first learned to play with fire at Singapore's FOC Restaurant, is now introducing neo-Catalan cuisine to Section 19. Sure there are croquetas, tortillas, padron peppers and pa amb tomàquet (bread rubbed with tomato and garlic) for the traditionalists, but it was the crispy pork belly eel bao that peaked our curiosity and brought us sniffing around the premises.
We tried the grilled octopus with equal parts chew and char, as well as a dish of roasted leeks that brought us back to the calçotadas of Spain, but it was the patatas bravas that made us see Little Pig's potential—picture mille-feuille made from potatoes instead of puff pastry!

TATLER TIP: Contrary to what it sounds like, the 5J Jamon Bikini is not a scanty swimsuit, but a sandwich.
5/7 Pints & Putts
PJ's first mini golf centre is truly mini, but provides hours of full on fun. Choose a club that best suits your height before stepping onto the green. From there, pitch and putt your way through several holes, each with its own theme, from horror to scifi.
If you get peckish, there's finger food as well as pasta dishes, rice bowls and sandwiches. Drinks run the gamut from cocktails to bottled beers, but for a place called Pints & Putts, we found it ironic that establishment had nothing on tap.
Pints & Putts | Lot A-G-05, The Hub SS2, 19 Sentral, Jalan Harapan, Seksyen 19, Petaling Jaya | 012-399 7271 | Mon, 9am-5pm, Tue-Sun, 3pm-12midnight
6/7 PoPo Hot Pot SS2
PoPo Hot Pot SS2 follows the success of PoPo Steamboat Cafe in Kepong. While the soup specialists are loud and proud about their signature mala broth, but we like the one boiled with pork bones best. We suggest starting dinner with a plate of PoPo's signature Drunken Chicken Wings; the skin on each wing is so taut that the smallest incision releases droplets of flavourful chicken jus.

7/7 Slow Coffee
Lot B is where you'll find a stretch of cafés that almost look like clones. If you must pick one, opt for Slow Coffee, which has more personality than its contemporaries.
Looking a lot like a design showroom straight out of Hong Kong, the café is frequented for its Fuwa Fuwa (Japanese for 'fluffy') pancakes and other brunch staples, but we found pleasure in the deep-fried tofu bites; these cubes with soft edges and even softer cores will implode in your mouth—we found ourselves reaching for our next piece before even having swallowed.
