Cover white asparagus

In honour of the season, the Mandarin Grill at Mandarin Oriental KL is giving the ‘edible ivory’ a starring role in its menu.

A change of season means more than just a change of fashion, it also means a change of food and few foods mark the start of Spring better than the white asparagus.

Traditionally harvested in many parts of Europe in this season, the less colourful cousin of the green asparagus is grown deprived of sunlight, thus preventing it from producing the chlorophyll that gives the asparagus its green colour. This also makes it tenderer and more delicate than its cousin. 

In honour of the season, the Mandarin Grill at Mandarin Oriental KL is giving the ‘edible ivory’ a starring role in its menu. Diners may want to try the White Asparagus Salad with Poached Egg, Heirloom Tomatoes and Herb Dressing, or the White Asparagus Mousse with Home Curd Salmon and Potato Dressing. The white asparagus can also be paired with main courses, such as the Grilled Boston Lobster, Black Angus Beef Tenderloin and Wiener Schnitzel.

Available from May 2 – 15, the white asparagus appetisers are priced from RM 46 nett onwards while main courses are from RM 105 nett onwards.
