Chef Tan Kim Weng named Scripps Network Asian Cuisine Chef of the Year.

This isn’t the esteemed chef’s first award and is unlikely to be his last.

Bearing the name of the Scripps Network, which is the company behind the Food Network, Asian Food Channel and HGTV (that fulfill 92.3% of my TV watching pleasure), the award was handed out at the World Gourmet Summit bring held in Singapore until April 16.

The award was given in recognition of Chef Tan’s incredible talent, as well as his excellent direct involvment with the Shang Palace kitchen and his creativity in preparing Szechuan and both modern and traditional Cantonese cuisine.

Chef Tan has over 20 years of experience in the industry and has picked up numerous awards over those years. He was was the Gold Winner for Malaysian Cuisine (Hot Cooking) at Culinaire Malaysia in 1993, won the Hong Kong Dim Sum King Southeast Asia Championship in 1998, and picked up the Hospitality Asia Platinum Award for Most Promising Asian Cuisine Chef in 2008.

So, it sounds like a good time to fit Shang Palace somewhere into your dinner plans this week. Call 03 2074 3904, email restaurantreservations.slkl@shangri-la.com or visit Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s official website.
