Curious as to how it would taste? You’ve come to the right place.

2- Fried Cod Fish wuth Mango Dressing and Prawn Fruit Salad.jpg -

Fried Cod Fish with Mango Dressing and Prawn Fruit Salad

The dish is presented in a hot and cold-style starter signature of most Chinese restaurants. The hot is represented by the deep-fried cod fish, which fluffy white flesh hiding beneath its crispy surface skin pairs incredibly well with the Thai-style mango sauce. Sweet, sour and only slightly spicy, the combination whets the appetite effectively.

Its cold counterpart is a refreshing prawn and fruit salad tossed in a light mayonnaise dressing. Juicy and refreshing, it puts out the heat from the fish while priming your tastebuds for the next course with its tangy mango and lychee bits.

5- Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Abalone, Snow Fungus and Papaya.jpg -

It may look like a cold dessert at first glance, but it is a hot double-boiled savoury soup that hits all the right notes of wholesome, flavourful and stomach-warming. The use of Chinese Silkie black chicken instead of regular chicken renders it sweeter, less fatty and all-around healthier.

A sharp unmistakable sweetness lace the broth, courtesy of the cubes of young papaya boiled in the mix. Imagine your favourite double-boiled chicken soup with added sweetness that no amount of dates can achieve, making this soup one of our favourite dishes from the entire set.

4- Deep Fried Prawns with Assorted Fruits Served with Orange Mayonnaise.jpg -

Prawn fritters coated in a creamy salad dressing is nothing new, but Zuan Yuan’s decision to lace the dressing with fresh orange juice and throw in diced strawberries and oranges into the mix gives the dish a whole new twist. The springy prawns prove a delight to savour but it is when you chance upon random pieces of fruit that the magic happens. Small pockets of juice lend a sweet third element to the salty and savoury mix, making it a dish that is unexpected in both taste and texture.

3- Wok Fried Lamb and Water Chestnut with Celery and Lily Bulbs.jpg -

The lamb is cooked and served in thin slices so they are tender and easy to chew. Balancing it out with a nice crunch are squares of water chestnut that bursts with sweetness when chanced upon. Celery also provides added fragrance and bite to the whole dish while slices of lily bulbs tie it all together with a nice pleasant creaminess much like sweet potato.

1- Fried Rice with Minced Fish and Pineapple.jpg -

Fried Rice with Diced Fish and Pineapple

Its name may sound like it, but this is not your typical pineapple fried rice easily found elsewhere. The diced fish in the dish is what makes the difference – instead of being sweet like the Thai version, this one is satisfyingly chewy in texture from the soft grains of rice and kept savoury from the tender fish. Flavour-wise, it is lifted only towards the end by a hint of tartness from the pineapple. Highly fragrant, you’ll wish you had a bigger portion when you find yourself chasing after the very last grain of rice.

Capping the meal nicely is a dish made completely of fruit. A whole snow pear is double-boiled until pulpy. What you get is a cold, smooth, not-at-all-too-sweet and incredibly soothing dessert that melts in your mouth. When you reach the centre, peach tree sap jelly spill out; it does not add to the sweetness, but merely enriches the silky dessert with an added pleasant bite.

The above 6-course menu is priced at RM114.26 nett per person per set. It is available for lunch and dinner at Zuan Yuan from now until 30 April.
