Three visionary Malaysian women scientists were recently recognised at the L'Oreal and Unesco For Women in Science National Fellowship 2019. They were Shivaani Mariapun, Dr Wan Iryani Wan Ismail and Dr Lim Way Foong, who were each granted RM30,000 to fund their research projects. Shivaani is working on a more accurate risk prediction model for breast cancer while Iryani is innovating the use of honey to prevent obesity. Way Foong is looking into an alternative version of LED light that is less hazardous to our health. Among the notable guests at the ceremony were Che Puan Datin Winnie Low, the director of Parkson Holdings Natalie Cheng, and stylish twin sisters Thanuja and Anuja Ananthan.
