Maison Vilucchi showcases its creativity with colours and textures at this luxury home in Brentwood Park, LA

Located within the prestigious Brentwood Park, one of Los Angeles’ most coveted residential areas for some of the country’s top earners, is this gorgeous two-storey home built with a Mediterranean architectural style right before the 90s.

The owners of this remarkable home are a married couple, the husband is an American entrepreneur in the engineering and energy industry, while his wife is an artist from Persia whose craft is focused on painting and photography. A well-travelled pair, the couple were keen to create a home that honoured the house’s architectural style while still feeling comfortable.

“The wife had always felt the house was too big to live in,” confesses Tancred Vilucchi, the French-Italian founder and main designer at Maison Vilucchi. “One of the first things I had to do for this particular project was balance the proportions and scale of the house to suit my clients’ lifestyles and make them want to come back to live in this house.”

When asked about his design inspiration for this project, Vilucchi immediately chimed in about his clients’ love of colours. “This idea of colours worked well to tie the individual design elements of the house. I wanted each room to tell its own story, so there’s a lot of grand elements that are playfully tied together by a myriad of colours.”

“For me, colours are a call for positive energy. Adding colours to your daily environment has an impact on your mindset in such a powerful way. When done right, it can be like a symphony, creating a sense of flow between the different spaces.”

Many natural, high-quality materials are incorporated throughout the house to create a rich and sophisticated atmosphere, as seen in the high-end marble countertops and elevated platforms, solid brass accents, and the many different statement pieces sourced from different parts of the world that reflect the client’s large art collection that is showcased around the house.

Teasing a glimpse of lush greenery from the window, Villuchi utilises large tropical prints in the powder room to create character and connect the home to the nature surrounding it

“My original idea for this space was to turn it into a personal oasis and also a talking piece. I specifically chose this banana leaf wallpaper by MOKUM to pay homage to my clients’ numerous travels and the lush patio outside,” adds Vilucchi.

Adorned with a customised base of “Mizzle 266” by Farrow & Ball, the green hues of the living room introduce and connect to the lush backyard and pool outside. The cornices are painted with the same grey undertone to flow with the entrance and the earthy hues of the wooden floorboards and exposed ceiling beams.

Vilucchi covers the interior side of the awnings above the window with a banana leaf outdoor fabric by MOKUM to match the powder room and enliven the softer tones and textures across the room.

“Since pink is my client’s favourite colour, I went with a modified base of ‘Vintage 1174’ by Benjamin Moore for the walls and ceiling of the dining room since this is the main space where the family celebrates together,” comments Vilucchi.

Going with a classic dining table and chandelier to reference the house’s classic influence, the playful multi-coloured upholstered dining chairs add a fun twist to meal times.

Despite the challenges that Vilucchi faced (such as severe water damage right at the start of the project), Vilucchi was grateful for how open-minded and trusting his clients were, giving him full control over his creative process.

“I was there for the entire remodelling process, from its inception to its completion,” notes Vilucchi. “Because it was such an intimate project, I got to play around with the ideas I had and create a house that truly speaks for itself.”
