We may be stuck at home again but rather than binge watch 17 seasons of Grey's Anatomy, discover the beautiful minds behind some of the world's best architecture and design

1. Eames: The Architect and the Painter

The life and work of one of design's greatest power couples, Charles and Ray Eames, are celebrated in this joyful documentary, the first film since their deaths in 1978 and 1988 respectively. Their work is associated with the pinnacle of mid-century design and their chairs whether in plywood and leather or fibreglass, are still in great demand today. Less was known about how their personal lives and influence on historical events in American life shaped their work, but this marvellously detailed film documents how the architect (Charles) and the painter (Ray) did this.

2. Abstract: The Art of Design | Bjarke Ingels

Danish architect and founder of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), Bjarke Ingels has been feted as the next big thing by the architecture world for some time now - but like how Gaggan Anand entered the mainstream after being featured on Netflix's Chef's Table, Ingels became less esoteric after being featured in the streaming channel's Abstract: The Art of Design's entry for architecture. The iconoclastic architect, who has been covered by architecture publications and Rolling Stone alike, is given the glossy treatment in this fast-moving episode which explores his creative process and boundary pushing work.

3. Sketches of Frank Gehry

Feted for his visually his stunning sweeping buildings like Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and Walt Disney Concert Hall, Frank Gehry counts Brad Pitt among his many fans. The late award-winning director Sydney Pollack was a friend and self-proclaimed architectural ignoramus, and this intriguing documentary was his attempt to get inside the Pritzker Prize winner's head. A rambling documentary which benefits from the director's close relationship with Gehry, as the duo chat about finding their niches within their respective professions. Starry talking heads include Bob Geldof and Hollywood super agent Michael Ovitz.

4. From Emptiness to Infinity

A master of transforming light, concrete and water into minimalist masterpieces, Pritzker Prize winner Tadao Ando has long been celebrated for his projects like the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas and the Church of the Light in Ibaraki, Japan. The Osaka-born architect is also Giorgio Armani's architect of choice, having designed the Armani Teatro in Milan where the Italian designer continues to have fashion shows and exhibitions. This 52-minute film sees German filmmaker Mathias Frick, following the father of haiku (Japanese for "nothingness") architecture as he works, exploring his processes.
