Copenhagen

As conference speakers speak on climate change and sustainable urban renewal, visitors and residents of Copenhagen will be able to take part in 4 days of public events.

In September, the city of Copenhagen will host a series of events -- from bike tours to boat rides to site visits -- allowing visitors to explore its architecture as a conference attracts key architects to the city's center.

The inaugural Rising Architecture Week will be centered around a two-day Conference and Playground on Copenhagen's Papir Island, which is just wrapping up a round of earlybird ticketing. Focused on the theme of "Growing Cities," that event is geared toward industry professionals.

As keynote speakers at the conference cover issues such as climate change and sustainable urban renewal, visitors and residents of Copenhagen will be able to take part in four days of public events all over the city.

Among them, Henning Larson Architects will lead a bike tour centered on the city's harbour and covering its transformation from industrial port to recreational space. A guided boat tour led by COBE will visit Nordhavnen (North Harbor), the largest metropolitan development project in Scandinavia, complete with a walking tour; and another boat tour will take guests to The Blue Planet, the largest aquarium in North Europe.

CPH Containers will lead a debate called Flexible Cities, followed by a guided tour of its CPH Shelter mobile container housing, and GXN will invite visitors into its lab to learn about the practice's work in new organic materials.

A list of activities can be found at rising-architecture.com/attend, although many details are still forthcoming.

The event runs from September 14-17, and the website provides visitors with ideas of where to stay and what else to do during their stay in Copenhagen.
