Jaeger-LeCoultre has announced that director Stephen Frears will receive the award at the 74th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2017.
For the past twelve years, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been closely associated with the best artistic film festivals around the world, including Venice, Shanghai and San Sebastian paying tribute to filmmakers who bring to life the art of filmmaking.
Dedicated to a personality who has made an original contribution to innovation in contemporary cinema, the 2017 Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker award will be presented to director Stephen Frears at the 74th Venice International Film Festival.

Stephen Frears will receive the award at a ceremony on September 3, 2017, at the Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema), before the out of competition screening of his new film Victoria & Abdul, receiving its world premiere screening in Venice.
The film is set in 1887, when Abdul travels from India to present a ceremonial medal as a part of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee but surprisingly finds favour with the elderly Queen. The unprecedented and unlikely relationship causes a battle within the royal household, pitting the Queen against court and family.
Victoria & Abdul humorously explores questions of race, religion, power, and the farce of the Empire through the prism of a highly unusual and deeply moving friendship.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker trophy
One of the most versatile directors around, Stephen Frears built a strong reputation for himself in the 1970s directing episodes of television series and TV movies. Since then, several of his films have received Oscar nominations including My Beautiful Launderette (1985), The Grifters (1990) and Philomena (2013).
At 74, he continues to remain a great narrator of tatler_tatler_stories and is not afraid of self-contradiction as the genre of his work passes from the social realism of the 1980s to biographies and from comedies to historical dramas.
In the past, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker award has been presented to Takeshi Kitano, Abbas Kiarostami, Agnès Varda, Sylvester Stallone, Mani Ratnam, Al Pacino, Spike Lee, Ettore Scola, James Franco, Brian De Palma and Amir Naderi.
The Venice International Film Festival will be held from August 30 to September 9, 2017.
