Valentine's Day 2020: 7 Films About Love & Passion To Watch On Netflix
1/7 Marriage Story
Noah Baumbach's film about love as seen through a divorce was one of the most acclaimed hits for the streaming service, picking up no less than six Oscar nominations including best actor for Adam Driver and best actress for Scarlett Johansson, and winning for best supporting actress for Laura Dern. The performances are truly brilliant, with a heartbreaking screenplay by director Noel Baumbach, which is based on his own divorce from actress Jennifer Jason Leigh.
2/7 Gone Girl
This psychological thriller tells the tale of a husband who becomes the main suspect in his wife's disappearance and the media circus that ensues. The twist at the end is shocking - let's just say love can kill.
3/7 500 Days Of Summer
This offbeat, post-modern love story manages to be funny, exhilarating and sad at the same time. Hopeless romantic Tom revisits the 500 days he was together with a woman named Summer to figure out where things went wrong between them.
What wouldn't you do for love? For Joe Goldberg, nothing. Gossip Girl alumni Penn Badgley portrays a charming and dangerously obsessive lover who would anything to get the girl of his twisted dream. The first season is set in New York while the second season, which launched recently, sees him terrorising another victim in Los Angeles.
5/7 La La Land
Follow the ups and downs of aspiring actress Mia's (Emma Stone) relationship with struggling jazz musician Sebastian (a brilliant Ryan Gosling) in this delightful musical.
6/7 The Great Gatsby
Directed by Baz Lurhmann, this under-appreciated modern classic set in the roaring 1920s is a veritable visual feast, anchored by the stellar performances of Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan as millionaire Jay Gatsby and debutante Daisy, the object of his unhealthy obsession, respectively.
7/7 Someone Great
Starring Jane The Virgin's Gina Rodriguez, music journalist Jenny starts sifting through her past after a blindside breakup. She then navigates through her fresh heartache with one last adventure with her closest friends. This millennial rom-com is refreshing, hilarious and relatable.
