Eager to return to the cinemas catch one of the most highly anticipated Hollywood blockbusters in 2020? Golden Screen Cinemas just announced that it will reopen in nine locations on December 16, 2020 at 6pm.
As of December 6, the CMCO has been lifted in states like Penang, Perak and Kelantan except for certain areas within these states. However, only three districts in Selangor namely Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor have been released from CMCO. The whole of Kuala Lumpur is still under CMCO.
Nevertheless, with restrictions removed from most states, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) has announced that it plans to reopen some of its outlets on December 16. They are:
- GSC Aman Central, Kedah
- GSC Gurney Plaza, Penang
- GSC Sunway Carnival, Penang
- GSC Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka
- GSC AEON Bandaraya, Melaka
- GSC Alamanda, Putrajaya
- GSC East Coast Mall, Kuantan, Pahang
- GSC Mentakab Star Mall, Pahang
- GSC CityONE Megamall, Kuching

This means that GSC will be able to screen the long-awaited Wonder Woman 1984, which premieres here on December 17. The superhero movie starring Gal Gadot was originally scheduled for a summer release in June this year but has been postponed multiple times due to the pandemic. With most of the year's blockbusters delayed to next year (think No Time To Die, Black Widow, A Quiet Place Part II and The King's Man), Wonder Woman 1984 will serve as the main bright spot in what has been an unprecedentedly challenging time for cinema operators worldwide. In the US, the movie will be screened simultaneously in select theatres and HBO Max on December 25.
Since Kuala Lumpur is still under CMCO, cinemas will not be open here for screening; however, you can dine at Jin Gastrobar in GSC's luxurious Aurum Theatre, Gardens Mall as it will reopen in time to serve festive meals and Christmas cocktails. Jin Gastrobar's menu will also be available for GrabFood delivery.
