A feature-length film about the little girl who everyone thinks is a cat Hello Kitty is in the works.

Expected to premiere in 2019, the film has a total budget of $240 million (including marketing costs). Created as a children's character by Yuko Shimizu in 1974, it wasn't until her 40th birthday in 2014 that Hello Kitty's true origins and identity were finally revealed. 

Rather than being a small cat standing five apples tall, she is actually a little girl called Kitty White, who comes from London and who likes dressing like a kitten.

The news caused shockwaves and a year later, fans are still trying to come to terms with the revelation.
