Henry Golding has scored a new gig. The Crazy Rich Asians star has been confirmed for a role in a new adaption of Jane Austen's 1817 novel, Persuasion, alongside Dakota Johnson, who plays the heroine Anne Elliot.

Golding will be playing the role of Elliot's cousin, the cold, unfeeling foil to the leading man, Frederick Wentworth, a role which has not been filled yet. According to Deadline, Golding was drawn to the role as he saw it as an "opportunity to play against type."

Also confirmed is Carrie Cracknell as director, she is best known for having directed Jake Gyllenhaal in the emotional Broadway play, Sea Wall/ A Life, and this will be her film directorial debut.

For those unfamiliar with the plot of Persuasion, it follows the exploits of Elliot and her family, who, due to her family's dwindling finances, are forced to move and rent out their house to an Admiral and his wife in a bid to reduce their debt.

The Netflix synopsis confirms the plot will remain similar to the book and all its romantic notions, with Anne having to choose between "putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances."

Golding has been busy in Hollywood, with several films now under his belt—his latest film, Snake Eyes, a spin off from the G.I. Joe franchise, is expected to hit movie theatres this July in the US, and he has starred in two Paul Feig films, A Simple Favor and Last Christmas, as well as in Guy Ritchie's action-packed thriller, The Gentleman in the last few years.

More recently, Golding and his wife, Liv Lo, welcomed their first child, a baby girl, in April.

The production of the film will reportedly begin this month.
