Royal Caribbean’s newest addition to its fleet, Symphony of the Seas, is making waves with some mindblowing, if not record-breaking, features which explains why it is the most spectacular lodging option at sea.

It is simply enormous.

Symphony of the Seas knows how to make a huge impression. The newest title holder of the world’s largest cruise ship astounds its beholders at 1,188 feet long (almost the total length of 4 football fields) and a gross tonnage of 228,081 (about 5 times the size of the Titanic). Naturally, a volume upgrade makes for a higher carrying capacity. With 2,759 staterooms aboard, the ocean behemoth can accommodate 5,518 passengers at double occupancy (up to a maximum capacity of 6,680 passengers).

It has more boroughs than NYC.

Symphony is practically a floating city. Split into 7 neighbourhoods – each with its distinct personality – there is plenty for guests to explore. The nostalgics will appreciate the Boardwalk as it comes packed with old-time amusements like a hand-carved carousel and a vintage-looking candy store named Sugar Beach. Royal Promenade, on the other hand, is the equivalent of the High Street which informs its potential as both a shopping and a dining destination. And we highly recommend a stroll in Central Park: the airy landscaped courtyard filled with 12,000 living plants is quite a sight to behold!

It has an impressive list of dining options.

Here is a fact all picky eaters can take comfort in: across the 7 neighborhoods are over 20 restaurants with more than 300 individual menu options! Other than Royal Caribbean’s signature culinary favourites like fusion food venue Wonderland, Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver, Japanese cuisine at Izumi and 150 Central Park’s American seasonal menu, 4 brand new dining concepts are debuted on Symphony. The most anticipated one is Hooked. The New England-style seafood restaurant features fresh seafood and a raw bar where oysters are shucked to order.

It raises the bar, literally.

There are, of course, a plethora of spots to spend the happy hour, though the most intriguing ones (and possibly the most popular) stand along the Royal Promenade. Over there, guests will find the Rising Tide, a bar befitting its name as it gently rises and falls from deck to deck, doubling as an elaborate elevator. Gimmicks go down just as well over at the Bionic Bar where robots play mixologist and fix the drinks.

It is the ultimate playground for all ages.

On Symphony, wow factors keep piling up, thanks to a multitude of kid and adult-primed diversions on offer. It is outfitted with a zip line, an ice-skating rink, a mini golf course, climbing walls, FlowRider surf simulators, a full-size basketball court and glow-in-the-dark laser tag. Amidst all the excitement, guests can also choose to cool off at one of the 24 pools and waterslides available. Our personal favourite is the Ultimate Abyss. The tallest slide at sea promises to get the adrenaline going as it plunges 9 decks!

It has an immersive performance line-up to match.

No cruise vacation is complete without live performances and Symphony is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in entertainment. While many will be delighted by the adaptation of one of Broadway's biggest crowd-pleasers – the musical Hairspray – even more will be awed by the daredevil acrobatic aqua show AquaNation and ice skating show 1977 which features dozens of choreographed, light-emitting drones dancing above the ice.

It comes with the Ultimate Family Suite.

If you need just one more reason to convince you of Symphony’s family friendliness, check out the Ultimate Family Suite. Larger than some metropolitan apartments, the 1,346-square-foot complex is bedecked in a whimsical colour palette and playful elements such as a slide connecting the children's room on the upper floor to the main living area below. For booking and enquiry, contact appointed travel agent Gem Travel & Tours at 03-77274835 or rccl@gem-travel.com.my.
