The UNESO award-winning boutique hotel is one of several locations where the highly-anticipated movie was shot. Commissioned by Cheong Fatt Tze (1840–1916) aka the ‘Rockerfeller of the East,' the eponymous property turned derelict after its owner's demise, but was restored to its former glory thanks to a team of Penang conservationists. Since then, the UNESCO award-winning heritage site has served as the backdrop for the following films — Oscar-winning French film 'Indochine' (1992), Malaysian movie 'The Red Kebaya' (2006), murder mystery 'The Blue Mansion' (2009) and comedy-drama 'Crazy Rich Asians' (2018)
