Swipe Right: The All-New & Exclusive UOB Visa Infinite Metal Credit Card
Typically, we wouldn't want to bombard you with hard-hitting facts and figures so early into an article, but we must provide you with some of UOB Malaysia's findings on travel-related expenditure – just to give you a little bit of context before we delve into their most recent launch.
According to their data, travel-related expenditure among affluent cardholders has grown by 35% since 2016. Following that, 2018 saw that said affluent cardholders also spent RM205 million on travel-related products and services, a 23% hike from 2017. Travel-related spending experienced the highest growth in 2018, and it was also found that 20% of cardholders' total credit card bills were charged in foreign currencies, which meant that Malaysian cardholders are frequently using their credit cards overseas.
Are you with us so far? Good. This then brings us to the advent of the new credit card star and hero: the UOB Visa Infinite Metal Card, which we are going to explore shortly with the help of its managing director and country head of personal financial services, Ronnie Lim.
1/5 It was designed especially for affluent travellers who crave convenience and comfort
"We observed that as more Malaysian consumers become more affluent, they tend to travel more extensively for work or leisure. Our data insights show that the discerning affluent traveller expects convenience, luxury and comfort when they travel. This is why we have designed the UOB Visa Infinite Metal Card, a credit card that offers travel-related rewards and benefits, to meet the exacting luxury travel needs and expectations of our affluent customers," said Ronnie.
2/5 It is the first of its kind in terms of material: bronze metal
“We wanted to create a card that not only provides premium travel and lifestyle benefits to our customers but is also resistant to the wear and tear from prolonged and regular use. Made of bronze, the UOB Visa Infinite Metal Card carries weight in its body and in its name. It is an exclusive card created for the discerning affluent individuals who value convenience and comfort and enjoy travelling, dining and shopping,” explained Ronnie.
3/5 Its design and visuals took on a whole new direction
"The UOB Visa Infinite Metal Card uses a unique design element. The cardholder’s name and card number are engraved onto the card, instead of embossed which is typically the case for plastic cards. In addition, the cardholders’ credit card number, expiry date and security code are all grouped together on one side of the card, making it more convenient for cardholders to read their details when making purchases online. We also chose the colour black for the card because it is synonymous with classic elegance."
4/5 The credit card has the frequent flyer in mind, and has an array of exciting attributes
Benefits of the UOB Visa Infinite Metal Card include:
- First-class travel privileges with more than 60 partner airlines, as cardholders also receive complimentary business class upgrades with selected airlines with every purchase of an economy-class seat.
- A competitive air miles redemption programme, wherein once you become a member, you are immediately entitled to 66,000 air miles that can earn you a business class round trip to Singapore or a one-way business class ticket to Melbourne.
- Accelerated reward points for overseas spend.

5/5 And, as far as exclusivity goes, the credit card is only available by invitation
