The celebrations of August will be well continued in the month of September as we celebrate Malaysia Day – a day that commemorates the establishment of the Malaysian Federation.

Along with national celebrations, the city of KL will see a great line-up of international and local artists with DiverseCity’s KL International Arts Festival and the KL Jazz Festival.

Sama-Sama Bon Odori

If you are a fan of everything Japanese, this is your chance to get a taste of Japan’s Bon Odori festival right here in KL! To celebrate the diplomatic relationships between Japan and Malaysia, Publika is hosting the Sama-Sama Bon Odori festival that promises a fun riot of parades, cultural performances, art and of course, food vendors selling all-time favourite Japanese snacks! A part of DiverseCity’s KL International Arts Festival, The Source, starring Tan Su Yin, showcases Western classical percussion, particularly the marimba. Covering American compositions, which were a major influence on Su Yin while studying in New York, the audiences will get to experience and witness some remarkable compositions of recent times with The Source. Our Regards To Broadway: A Music Concert

Hold your breath, as Vocal Talents Music takes you through an enchanting evening of contemporary music with Our Regards to Broadway. Featuring songs from Miss Saigon, Wicked, Chess, Rent, Little Women, The Sound of Music, Camelot, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and more, this is one music concert you don’t want to miss out on. Shantanand Festival of Arts

The Shantanand Festival of Arts put together by the Temple of Fine Arts, is a kaleidoscope of music, dance, drama performances and workshops, from traditional Malay Mek Mulung dance to modern Jazz. Ilham Contemporary Forum

The Ilham Contemporary Forum brings together professional from various fields, all younger than 39, to curate exhibitions of recent artworks and cultural projects, to study the current happenings in Malaysian arts and culture. Spread out across a few months, the forum conducts film screenings, talks and workshops to encourage interaction amongst interested art patrons. KL International Jazz Festival

The much-awaited KL International Jazz Festival kick starts this week with an opening performance by renowned jazz ensemble Fusion 5, at Upstage Lounge, Bangsar. Known for their high energy driven jazz rock elements, the band plays a varied fusion of jazz rock, blues, classic rock and experimental music; perfect to liven-up a mid-week work day! In conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Muhammad V’s installation as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Royal Museum is organising Our King’s Exhibition, which will display a large collection of the King’s personal memorabilia. The exhibition will also take visitors through displays of conventional texts, posters, artefacts and a video presentation of the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong's installation ceremony. The exhibition will be held at the Royal Museum from 9am - 5pm until September 4, 2017.
