Throughout her career, the South Korean star has been seen taking up a wide range of roles, establishing a reputation as a “chameleon” actress

South Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon is a household name in her native country and has been a popular figure within the entertainment industry for over two decades. But she's not slowing down any time soon as the Hallyu star is currently the talk of the town thanks to her role in the latest K-drama series, Crash Course in Romance.

Since her film debut in The Contact in 1997, the 50-year-old actress has seen a steady increase in her popularity, being loved for her warm personality. Over the years, she has taken on a wide variety of roles ranging from a delivery girl in K-drama series You Are My Sunshine to a housemaid in the psychological thriller Housemaid. The veteran actress has also won various accolades, including Best Actress at the 60th Cannes Film Festival in 2017.

Jeon is constantly impressing us with her stellar acting skills and she’s not stopping anytime soon. In fact, the veteran star is set to star in the upcoming action film, Kill Boksoon. To be released on Netflix on March 31, this crime-action drama sees Jeon playing the role of a renowned assassin.

1. Star In My Heart

One of Jeon’s first K-dramas, the 1997 series sees her play Soon-ae, the best friend of main protagonist Lee Yun-hee (Choi Jin-sil). This was also one of the first K-dramas that was broadcasted outside of South Korea, kickstarting the Hallyu or Korean wave. Following the release of the series, the entire cast, including Jeon, quickly gained popularity both inside and outside of South Korea.

2. Lost

In this 2021 K-drama, Jeon plays a 40-year-old ghostwriter Lee Bu-jung. As she attempts to write an original work, Lee tries to find a new meaning of life. Jeon stars alongside Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’s Kang Hyung-seok and Alchemy of Souls’ Byeong Eun-park.

3. The Good Wife

A South Korean remake of the hit US TV series of the same name, The Good Wife follows husband and wife duo Lee Tae-joon (Yoo Ji-tae) and Kim Hye-kyung (Jeon Do-yeon). Lee is a successful prosecutor that gets arrested for corruption while Kim is forced to return to her previous career as an attorney to help her husband.

4. Secret Sunshine

Based on Lee Cheong-jun’s short fiction The Story of a Bug, this film sees Jeon play the role of Lee Shin-ae. Following the death of her husband, Lee wrestles with questions of grief, madness and faith. Jeon’s performance in this film won her the Best Actress award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

5. Emergency Declaration

This 2022 action thriller follows a passenger jet as it attempts to land after a terror incident that had occurred mid-flight. Here, Jeon is transport minister Kim Sook-hee. The film also stars Mr Sunshine’s Lee Byung-hun and Parasite’s Song Kang-ho.
